Sylvester's
Study is named after Sylvester Deming who owned the Deming
Tavern
(across the street from the Inn). His son, Martin Chester
Deming, built the Arlington
Inn as a private home in 1848 and
Sylvester was unhappy with him for building such
an ostentatious
house!
